Ep 35 – Interview With Molly Girod | Yellow Basket Baking
In this episode, we talk to the owner of Yellow Basket Baking about her plant-based journey and how she started her plant-based gourmet baking company, Yellow Basket Baking in Vancouver, Canada. These baked goods were so good we had to get one of each she had on display. You don’t want to miss her baked goods at her next farmer’s market or at a coffee shop near you!
About Yellow Basket Baking
Only the best in the Basket.
Food. Share. Love.
When sisters, Mallory and Molly Girod, set out to create recipes for their baking company it all had to be shareable and of course tasty. From a family with diverse allergies and food sensitives they knew first hand how challenging it could be to sit down to enjoy the same treats. Sharing what you love with who you love is the foundation of Yellow Basket Baking. The business, thriving with Molly as sole owner, has upheld those goals and built on that foundation.
Creative, passionate and always hungry Molly Girod started baking at a young age and hasn’t stopped since. Yellow Basket Baking never uses animal ingredients or nuts, so Molly has strived twice as hard to create full rich flavour and amazing textures. Passionate about quality and sustainability Molly also insures tasty products by sourcing as much organic and local ingredients as possible. The recipes may have evolved from those early days, although a good Chocolate Chip cookie is still her favourite, the intention remains the same – Make something tasty to share!

Ep 32 – Interview With Danielle Arsenault | Pachavega
In this episode, we talk to Danielle Arsenault about her plant-based journey, her raw food chef certification courses at Pachavega Living Foods Education, and her new plant-based TV series Heal and Ignite Across Canada.
About Danielle Arsenault
Danielle Arsenault, founder of Pachavega Living Foods Education, is a lover of many things. She is a passionate Raw Food Chef, Spanish teacher, cave guide, slack liner, rock climber, mountain lover, cookbook author and whole foods nutrition and lifestyle consultant. It is her dream to educate the world about the healing power of plant-based whole foods and a healthy lifestyle rooted in compassion for the planet. Pacha came from Pachamama, which is a native word from the indigenous Quechua people of South America meaning Mother Earth, and Vega is to honour the humble vegetable.
She can become lost in the folds of nomadic travels now and then but still finds time to pursue her passions. For almost 10 years, she travelled the world and discovered isolated corners of over 25 countries (and counting). In 2011 a near-death rock climbing accident gave her the realization that we must honour this one life we live, that we are truly blessed to be here and the sky is the limit. We can achieve anything we put our minds to and that we have the ability to make our dreams come true. Always with an eye for fresh foods, Danielle has discovered endless combinations and hidden secrets in nutrition – especially in raw, living foods. After the accident, she found herself rapidly healing with no lingering pains whatsoever. She attributed this vitality to the food that she was eating and this sparked her passion for whole foods. She knew it was her calling to strive to educate herself in depth about the healing power of whole foods and a healthy lifestyle.
While living in South Korea for years, she collaborated with the lovely Jessica Perlaza by co-creating a vegan, gluten-free cookbook series inspired by seasonal, whole foods. They call themselves the kitchens of pinch and dash and wrote four books together. You can find these cookbooks online. Danielle has also recently published her own recipe book, Heal and Ignite; 55 Whole Food, Plant-Based Recipes to Heal your Body and Ignite your Spirit!
In 2012, she also completed a ukulele-infused, singer-songwriter album under her musical pseudonym, Mustache Fable and in 2016 she became an Ambassador for Salome Naturals, a company based out of Canada that sources pure single origin, fairly traded and equitably sourced moringa. She is also an on-board chef with Sea Shepherd. In the summer of 2018 she joined the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society on their campaign in the Caribbean whose main mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.
Looking for some grounding roots, she founded Pachavega Living Foods Education in 2013 to inspire people to take charge of their happiness and health by eating mindfully. She offers whole foods, plant-based catering, nutritional consultation and runs a vegan culinary school that teaches raw food chef certification including a Basic and Advanced Raw Chef Certificate that has over 100 graduates now in a few short years. She is also the co-founder of Live Pure Culinary Institute, a vegan, plant- based culinary institute with courses in Canada, Cape Cod and Costa Rica. Both Pachavega Living Foods Education and Live Pure Culinary Institute are Internationally Certified Raw Food Chef Schools, certified by the Raw Food Chef Alliance. She is currently working on a new television series, Heal and Ignite Across Canada. The first episode was filmed in May 2018 and is now in the editing process.

Interview With Chickpea Restaurant Owners (Rotem & Itamar)
In this episode we talk to the Chickpea Restaurant Owners, Rotem and Itamar, about their journey in moving to Vancouver, Canada and creating their dream restaurant and food truck. A must try restaurant if you are in Vancouver, Canada area!
About Chickpea
Food has always played a major role in Rotem Tal & Itamar Shani’s lives. Originally from Israel, both of them experienced the fresh, spicy, homemade flavours of the Mediterranean first hand.
As boys, before ever meeting, they each separately began experimenting with their own cooking styles.
Rotem, a rugged traveler at heart, left home at the age of 22 in search of new culinary experiences. His travels took him from India to Australia, Amsterdam to Thailand, and many places in between. When he finally arrived in Vancouver, he fell in love with the mountains, yoga classes and the laid-back atmosphere and decided to stay.
At the same time, Itamar, a self-taught chef and Renaissance man, began cooking up new fusion dishes, incorporating many of the techniques he learned from working at Israeli restaurants.
At the age of 24, Itamar, his beautiful wife Jordana and their cat Wesley moved to Vancouver to be with family and take advantage of the healthy West Coast lifestyle.
Although Rotem and Itamar loved their life in Vancouver, they both felt something was missing. Working at various jobs unrelated to food, they yearned for a proper hummus or falafel place in the city.
In order to fill the gap, they each began cooking their own Mediterranean dishes at home and sharing them with friends and family. Each one dreamed of opening up a restaurant with a cozy, funky BC atmosphere that featured delicious plant based Israeli food. Fate brought them together a few years ago and they finally met, bonding over their Israeli roots, their love of food and their common vision.
A few short years and a lot of hummus later, the Chickpea Food Truck was born!
In the Summer of 2017 they opened their first storefront in the bumping Mount Pleasant hood. Both Itamar and Rotem believe that their way to connect with the world is through people’s stomachs.
Through delicious, healthy food, prepared with love Chickpea hopes to make a difference to each person they interact with.

We needed to be more than The Best Deodorant In The World, we needed to be The Best Deodorant For The World by inspiring future generations to live sustainably without harming our bodies, the earth and other animals.
In this episode, we talk to Margaux from “The Best Deodorant In The World” about building a business without harming the earth, animals, and ourselves. Also, we talk about creating a business 2.0 that have a great social impact, give back to the community and help the world become a better place!
Inside The Best Story
In 2009 a personal health become important to us and after switching everything in our life to natural alternatives (even our bed), we couldn’t find a truly natural deodorant that worked. So we turned our kitchen into a natural deodorant lab.
What we created for personal use became so popular it eventually showed up at places like the Golden Globes and MTV music awards.
In 2016 doctors discovered a baseball sized lump in my upper chest. Through a surgical error, I almost didn’t make it home.
The fellas in the white coats attributed this lump to endocrine and hormone disrupting toxins found in plastic, which leech into our everyday products like deodorants, food and even our water.
Being a few heart beats away from never seeing your family again makes you reconsider a lot of things… This was the moment when we decided to shut down what we’d worked so hard on for 7 years. We then reinvested everything we had into creating “The Best Deodorant In the World”!

Interview With Howard Lyman | From Cowspiracy & Oprah
In this episode we talk to the famous Howard Lyman, a former cattle rancher, about his plant-based journey, the environmental impact of animal agriculture, Cowspiracy and even his controversial time on Oprah!
About Howard Lyman
Howard F. Lyman (born on September 17, 1938, in Great Falls, Montana) is an American farmer and animal rights activist known for promoting vegan nutrition and organic farming. In 1997 he was awarded the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award for his leadership in the animal rights movement.
Biography
Howard Lyman was raised as a fourth generation rancher on a farm that produced dairy and meat commodities. He attended Montana State University and graduated with a B.S. degree in general agriculture in 1961. Upon graduation, he spent two years in the United States Army before returning to work on the farm.
Likewise, from 1963 to 1983 he was actively engaged in animal and grain production. The areas in which he was involved were dairy, pork, registered Hereford, chicken, range cattle, feedlot beef production, veal, grain, silage, and hay production.
Similarly, in 1979 Lyman was diagnosed with a tumor in his spine and faced with the prospect of paralysis. He then vowed to return to non-chemical means of farming if he would beat cancer. After surviving an operation to remove the tumor he set out to transform his land into an organic farm. He also ran for political office, but lost his first election. Also, he became a lobbyist, and moved to Washington, D.C.
Circa 1990, again facing health concerns, he became a vegetarian and found his health improved. In 1989 Lyman had begun to investigate Mad Cow disease, which was just becoming an issue in the UK. He eventually became a vegan.
In April 1996 Lyman came to national attention during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Lyman’s remarks on the show led to Winfrey renouncing hamburgers and The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association suing Lyman and Winfrey. It was a great day when both Winfrey and Lyman were found not guilty in 1998.

Interview with Tikiri Herath (Red Heeled Rebels | Author)
In this episode, we talk to Tikiri Herath an Author, Adventurer, Entrepreneur, Girl Empowerer and Author of the Red Heeled Rebels novel series. Also, we discuss how a plant-based lifestyle fits into her busy scheduled and how it shaped who she is today.
Who is Tikiri Herath?
I’m a rebel in my own way, who created the life I desired, making many mistakes along the way. I left home at a young age to distance myself from a difficult childhood, and worked for minimum wage, cleaning stinky toilets at one point and sleeping in basement rooms to put myself through a bachelor’s degree.
I went on to get an MBA from Europe and worked my way through the corporate world for more than a decade until I rediscovered my life’s passion for books and social change. Today, I write, speak and connect with readers with one goal in mind – to inspire and empower the lives of young women around the world, especially those who live in the darkest corners of our planet. I do what I do because I remember what it’s like to be a scared and lonely girl with few opportunities and little support.
What’s Her Mission?
I envision a world where every girl in the world gets to go to school in a safe and nurturing environment, a world where every young woman gets the choice to decide what she wants to do with the rest of her life.
My mission in life is to inspire girls and young women who live in the darkest corners of our planet. These are sad places where girls don’t matter and where women have few rights, if any. They are pulled out of school to marry men four times their age, forced into domestic slavery, bondage, trafficked across borders, and sold off for a mere few dollars as chattel, commodities. I want to inspire these girls and young women to stay strong against their adversities, to grab onto chances, and to never back down. Also, I want them to know they matter and they are not alone.
I write to entertain, but more importantly, I write to inform the world about what happens to the most vulnerable populations in our world today. And if only one girl, just one girl, stands up for her dignity and rights after reading my work, then I will have done my job.
